History of the valve

The Romans were some of the first to engage in the transportation of water through tunnels, pipelines and aqueducts. A variety of examples of this can still be found in Europe today. You can see some photos of pipelines used by the Romans on this page.

The valve evolved through the use of this type of transport, because people only wanted to use water when they needed it. The principle of the valve was widely used in Roman homes and bath-houses. Through the images below you can get an idea of what the first type of valve looked like.

The Romans entered The Netherlands about 2000 years ago and brought water transportation and the concept of the valve along. It came to be in general use in the bath-houses of the first Roman cities, "Mosae Trajectum" or Maastricht and "Noviomagum", also known as Nijmegen.

Now, 2000 years later, A.S.E. BV is following in their footsteps by supplying The Netherlands and the rest of Europe with all types of valves from Nijmegen, where it all started.
